Holistic Nutrition to Nourish the Lower Chakras

How do you nourish your Light?

Let’s take this question literally today: which foods will best support you in shining brightly, and in sharing your gifts with the World?

Today, I’d like to give you some suggestions, especially to nourish and balance your three lower chakras. I’ll give you general guidelines that will help you choose foods in relationship with chakras. If you are new to chakras, you’ll find an introduction to the root chakra, sacral chakra and solar plexus chakra in last week’s article.

Nourishing the Root Chakra

The first chakra is all about grounding and allowing yourself to be nourished by Mother Earth, and let her provide you with the security and basic survival, nourishments you need to live a healthy life.

To support the root chakra, you want to eat foods that connect you with the Earth energy. Think roots and root vegetables like carrots, ginger, beets, parsnips, curcuma, sweet potatoes, radishes, etc., as well as red colored fruits and vegetables.

Also, make sure you are in a state of presence and mindfulness when you eat. Chew every bite at least 30 times – it will support a healthy digestion and assimilation, as well as help you connect with your body while you eat.

Nourishing the Sacral Chakra

The second chakra is all about true joy and pleasure. When you are disconnected from what deeply nourishes your Soul and aligns you with your Soul’s purpose, you might look for pleasure in processed foods or other “external” sources of nourishment. Eating disorders and a general unhealthy relationship with food are typical signs of imbalances in the sacral chakra.

To balance your sacral chakra, look for orange colored foods, as well as unprocessed foods that delight your taste buds and make your heart sing. Think about your favorite fruit. Imagine biting into a perfectly sun-ripened, sweet mango for example, or any other fruit you love.

Try to eat at least one of these soul nourishing delights every day. Make it a sacred moment, taking the time to slow down, ground in the present moment and be fully mindful of each bite. Truly enJOY this gift to your whole being.

Nourishing the Solar Plexus Chakra

The third chakra is your center, the place you can come back to to choose what is serving you or not, what you want to allow into your energy field, and what you want to project into the world.

No wonder then, that from the health of your solar plexus chakra depends the health of your digestive system, which in turn impacts your emotional state.

To nourish your third chakra, choose yellow colored foods, as well as foods that are naturally rich in prebiotics (substances that support a healthy gut flora) like ripe bananas (bananas are ripe when they start to have black spots), garlic, onions, raw asparagus, as well as fermented foods like miso or sauerkraut.

Bottom line

As you can see, the health of your three lower chakras greatly influences your physical health. On the digestive level, we can summarize the roles of the lower chakras like follow. Nonetheless, keep in mind that the chakras communicate between each other, and therefore, even if we can identify general tendencies for each of them, their roles can slightly overlap with each other:

  • Root chakra = getting nourishment (accepting to be alive)
  • Sacral chakra = assimilating nourishments (embracing our incarnation as a human being on Earth)
  • Solar plexus chakra = digesting and eliminating foods (being aware of our energy vs other’s energy, and setting clear boundaries)

Associating different approaches will help you get quicker and deeper results, so make sure to combine oils and foods (as well as any other technique you know – more about that in a future article) when caring for your chakras!
